Speaking about the year of science, it is important to mention one of the priority scientific directions, without which it is impossible to fully develop the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation. This direction is the study of the state of health of population and its living environment, and the study of factors that determine it. The industrial development of this macroregion, which is inextricably linked with the extraction of minerals and exploitation of the Northern Sea Route, together with the harsh climatic conditions form a whole set of unfavorable factors. Today, science must timely identify these factors, assess the intensity of their impact, and minimize the risk caused by these factors.
The problems of labor protection and reducing occupational morbidity are of particular relevance in the Arctic, considering the combined impact of industrial and climatic factors peculiar to the Arctic region.
In this issue of "Russian Arctic" we tried to highlight the current questions of occupational health and occupational pathology in the Arctic zone of Russia, as well as to outline their main trends and ways to solve the existing problems.
The discussion of these and many other issues is planned within the framework of the III International Scientific and Practical Conference "Problems of Preserving Health and Ensuring Sanitary and Epidemiological Wellbeing of the Population in the Arctic", which will be held on October 21-22, 2021 in St. Petersburg.
